S.T.A.M.P.

Secondary sources are as much a "product of their time" as Primary Sources. Secondary sources can be subject to bias, preconceptions and outdated historiography. Therefore historians should be as careful analysing secondary sources as they are primary sources. Much like P.A.P.E.R. Patrick Riel also developed a tool for analysing secondary sources called S.T.A.M.P. This acronym stands for:

  • Structure
  • Thesis
  • Argument
  • MotivesĀ
  • Primaries
