A cave wall drawing, painting or poster can tell historians as much about history or more as a government paper, letter or diary. Thus P.A.P.E.R. can be employed to analysis images as well. For example, the above watercolour sketch of the Rideau Canal. Modern audiences might guess that it was sketched as a pastime. However, in the pre-surveillance photograph era of the 1840s, the sketch would have been a useful document for military surveillance on the canal.
